Honors Biology Midyear Exam

The Honors Biology Midyear Exam is 80 multiple choice questions and 20 points of essay and short answer questions.

Review the material on your study guide, visit usatestprep.com again, and then review your notes, books and notecards.  Also, review the activites we did in class.  See me in the mornings if you have any last minute questions.

All of my Honors Biology exams are in the morning from 8:25 - 10:15.

Monday (Dec. 20th) - Period 1

Tuesday (Dec. 21st) - Period 3

Wednesday (Dec. 22nd)  - Period 2

A.P. Biology Midyear 2010

A. P. Biology Test will cover chapters 1-19.

The test will be 80 multiple choice questions and 2 essays.  You will have 65 minutes for the MC and 45 minutes for the essay.

The essays will cover topics including enzymes, cell membrane and transport, photosynthesis, respiration, central dogma of molecular biology (transcription and translation), eukaryotic vs prokaryotic gene expression and mitosis vs. meiosis.  One of the essays will be a lab related essay.

SUMMER RESEARCH OPPORTUNITY FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

Are you a high school student interested in gaining research experience?
If you are, then you might want to apply to the Science & Engineering
Apprenticeship Program (SEAP) offered by the Office of Naval Research.
The eight-week summer program places students in labs around the country
and pays these students $3,075 for their work.  Visit the SEAP Web site to

H. Biology Midyear Exam

The Midyear Exams will be held from December 20-22. 

The H. Biology Exam covers 10 chapters : Chapter 1 - Basic Science, Chapters 13-16 - Ecology, Chapter 2 - Biochemistry, Chapter 3 - Cells, Chapter 4 - Photosynthesis/Cellular Respiration, Chapter 5 - Mitosis, and Chapter 6 - Meiosis and Simple Genetics.

To prepare for the final:

Read over, complete and review the Study Guide below:

If you find you have difficultly in any one of the sections, read over your book.  If you still are having trouble, ask me questions.

We will schedule at least one study session the week before the exam (next week).  I will post the session on the blog by the end of this week.  We will also review a couple days before the exam.

Remember, this will probably be one of your most difficult exams.  You should be preparing already.  You must study every night.

40 point Exam - Let's call it a Quest on Monday- Dec 13th

In the Book

  • All of Chapter 17
  • 18.4
  • 19.1 and 19.2

The topics covered are:

  • Central Dogma of Molecular Biology (ie. Transcription and Translation.  Also, review DNA replication - Chapter 16).  Be able to describe the details!
  • Codons, Anticodons, Mutations  Go over the mutations work.
  • Review Labs on DNA Electrophoresis and Restriction Enzymes.
  • Operon Model - Lac / Trp Operon
  • Gene Expression at all Levels in Eukaryotes and Prokaryotes.

**** Note to Football Players and Fans: If you are not going to be in class on Friday, you must record results for the lab in the morning at 7:30 AM. The typed lab report will be due on Tuesday.****
