Monday and Tuesday students will be working in the studio finishing up work for the critique on Wednesday.
New Assignments: Critique Oct. 24
Assignement 1: Drawing Portfolio and 2d non photography portfolio- Draw or paint a composition incorporating a broken object observed from 2 distinct vantage points. Choose the format that supports your idea. Work ideas, play with media, composition in the sketchbook. All artwork must be done from direct observation and/or personal photographic reference. Choose the media that helps communicate your idea.
Assignment 2:Concept: Draw or paint 2 compositions that depict your interpretation of the phrase conceal/reveal. Both compositions are necessary to create the meaning and visual coherence of the whole piece.
Brainstorm in your sketchbook. work out your thinking on paper in the sketchbook. Record your process.
Photography Portfolios:
Assignment 1: Create one image that engages the viewer with one of the senses. Really try and convience us how something smells, tastes or sounds. Think about TEXTURE!
Assignmet 2: Horror Photo open to your interpretation. Make sure it is school appropriate.
Students will be finishing their Surrealist collages. Due date is Thursday Oct. 1 by the end of the period.
Friday students will be workin on and finishing their sketchbooks on Surrealism. Sketchbooks are due when you walk into class on Monday morning.
This week the students will be working on their final Surrealistic Collage and sketchbooks on Surrealism.
This week student will be working from observation painting a small still life of bottles in oil.
Sketchbooks for research on The Seven Deadly Sins on Sept. 23
This week students are to be working in the studio on Extreme Point of View and Night Shooting.
Progress grades today.
Everyone should be signing up for a Blog by the end of the week. I will have an outline typed out by the end of the week of what specifically what I want you to have on your blog.

Shooting assignment: Shutter Speeds 1 roll Due 50 points Monday Sept.21
Prints for Shutter speed due Sept. 28 for Critique
Sketchbook assignment: Emotional Portraits 3 two page spreads due: Sept. 25
Find one photographer and complete a two page spread on her or him. You will be shooting in the style of the photographer you choose.
In class/studio assignment: Beginning Oil Painting
- Monday: Critique on Black and White Charcoal Assignment
- Tuesday: We will begin Gessoing boards and canvas for painting. You will also need to bring in a few materials: small jar with lid, an old tshirt, any brushes you have.
- Wednesday: We will begin our painting excercises

In your sketchbooks you should be doing research on the list of painters I gave you. Decide who you like in terms of markmaking and technique. You should also be researching The Seven Deadly Sins. Decide what sin you want to do your painting on. Start doing thumbnails. Due Wednesday Sept. 23
In class/studio assignment: Beginning Surreal Collage
- Monday: Find at least 5 images that you will use for your mini lab assignment - paint/draw a scene/background that you will also use for your mini lab
- Tuesday: View Surrealism power point - demo on collage - begin collage mini lab
- Wednesday: Finish Collage Mini lab - sketch ideas for surreal collage
- Thursday: Begin surreal collage
- Friday: Continue surreal collage
Sketchbooks due Pattern and Color Friday Sept. 18th
Students will be working in the darkroom this week printing their first two images for Point of View which is due Friday for Critique.
Students should be working in their sketchbooks on Light due Friday Sept 11
Students should also be shooting for shutter speeds.
Students will be pinning up their contour line drawings on Tuesday if they are complete and we will be talking about them as a group.
We will also be introducing Surrealism and beginning the Collage assignment.
Friday we will be working in our sketchbooks the new assignment is a two page spread about color and pattern due Sept.18.
Students will be working on their expressive charcoal pieces. We will be having our first critique on Monday Sept. 14
Students should be working on the following assignments.
Photography students are to be working on Contact sheet as Image and Pattern.
2D students are to be working on Refuge and Concentration and or Pattern/Color piece.
Drawing students are to be working on Refuge/Concentration and or Breadth of your choice.
Students are to be working in the studio all week and have a progress grade on Tuesday worth 50 points.
Students will be working on their contour line drawings in class all week
This weeks studio activities include:
Monday- anyone who still does not know how to make a contact sheet or print will be working on that with me in the darkroom. Everyone else will be rolling film, developing film and working in your sketchbooks that are due at the end of the period.
Tuesday- Group 1 is in the darkroom everyone else will be rolling and processing film or working on new sketchbook assignment: Lighting due date is Sept.11
Wednesday- Group 2 is in the darkroom rest of the class is working on the above.
Thursday- Group 3 is in the darkroom rest of the class working on the above
Friday- Group 4 is in the darkroom rest of the class is working on the above.
Everyone will have 2 prints due Monday Sept. 14
New shooting assignment is SHUTTER SPEEDS. You will need to shoot slow shutter and fast shutter speeds. 2 Prints due from everyone for Critique is Sept. 28
Students will be working on their expressive charcoal drawings in the studio.
