This week we are working on up loading our images to Scholastics. www.artandwritingawards.org
You need to register on the site. Upload your 8 images if you are a senior or 1 image if you are a junior or below. Print out all the forms, have your parents sign them and you sign them and then me. Copy your image or images on a CD along with a check made out to GSU for the correct amount.
I will be giving you firm due dates on Friday. Please begin your research in your sketchbooks for the following three assignments.
Our next assignment to begin research on is Still Points in a Turning World. As crazy, busy and chaotic as the world is today what keeps you still? What keeps you grounded? Brainstorm ideas in your sketchbook, look at artists and create one 2 page spread on your findings. You may use any technique you want except for any media you have used do not use again. You may want to use mixed media, or oil painting to create your piece. NO COMPUTER REFERENCES OF ANY KIND MAY BE USED ON THIS ASSIGNMENT. IF YOU NEED A REFERENCE MAKE YOUR OWN!
Liquide Light- Research liquide light, create a two page spread on your ideas and the technical aspect of liquide light.
Encaustic- We will be experimenting with Encaustics. I will be showing a powerpoint on the history of Encaustic and a few short video demonstrations and then you will be allowed to experiment with the media to create a small piece.
Non traditional art materials piece: Create a piece using non traditional art media. size limitations no smaller than 16x20 no larger than you want. May not use any tradtional art material to create this piece. You must make your own. Example grind up berries for red, or coffee grounds for brown. You may not use tradtional art tools make your own or find other materials to make marks with.
Monday-Wednesday students will be finishing up their Humanimals. You need to be done by the end of class Wednesday. Bring what ever you are working on for Metamorphasis, you will be workin on that Thursday and Friday.
Thursday and Friday students will be working in their sketchbooks on Metamorphasis.
We will begin our new sculpture assignment Monday.
Monday- You will be finishing up your sketchbooks. They are due at the end of the period.
Tuesday- You will be reading Chapter 1 from our Ceramics book and taking notes in your sketchbook. It is important you take good notes because you will have a quiz on all of the information, you will be allowed to use the notes on the quiz.
Wednesday- You will have a deomonstration on clay techniques for our Humanimals.
Thursday- You will begin the construction of your Humanimals. Please make sure you have a gallon zip lock bag to store your Humanimal in.
Friday- Continue construction on Humanimals.
Sketchbook Assignment: Metamorphasis
Create a piece that represents your idea of Metamorphasis. You may do anything you want. You may do photography, but your final image must be printed out 8x10 on photo paper or I will not accept it. Video, animation, a cartoon, sculpture, painting, anything and any media. Due date is Oct. 29.
I will not be in school this week you will have Mr. Lewis as your wub.
This week you will be working on your shading techniques/excercises.
Please complete the following drawing at home for homework due on Oct. 18th.
Roll and curl up 6 peices of paper and arrange it on another piece of white paper. Use a light to cast shadows. Pay attention to soft and hard edges, shade in the direction of the form. No outlines and use Constrast. Use excellent compostional skills. Drawing should be no smaller than 8x10.
Fold pieces of white paper in an accordian, draw and shade the piece of paper in 4 different arrangements, change the direction or orientation of the folded paper. Pay attention to hard and soft edges, as well as subtle value changes in the shadows. Use Contrast. Remember it is white paper. All 4 seperate drawings are due Oct. 18th.

This week I will not be in school and you will have Mr. Lewis as your sub. You are expected to be on your very best behavior and help keep the classroom clean, and you need to stay on task.
The following 3 assignments are due when you walk in to class Oct. 18th each assignmnet is worth 100 points.
Assignment 1: Cultural Research page
Assignment 2: Cultural Inspiration page. Just paint this page do not use the chalk pastels and Ink. This will make it easier for you to complete while I am gone.
Assignment 3: Humanimals page.
When I return we will begin our ceramics unit and we will be constructing Humanimals our of clay. A humanimal is a animal who has a human job. For example a Otter Doctor, he or she would have an otter body and a doctors outfit on.
Directions for Humanimals page.
1. decide on what animal you want to make.
2. What job or career will your animal be wearing?
3. Print out multiple images of your animal front view, side view and back view.
4. Print out images of the costume they will be wearing including all the accessories they will need.
5. Draw our the Humanimal from the waist up make sure you include all the details you will be making in clay. Use colored pencil to add color. Your page must be colored in using colored pencil. Below are examples of the Humanimals you will be constructing..
