STudents will be completing their thumbnails today using vine charcoal.

Tuesday-Wednesday Students will begin to enlarge their best thumbnail sketch on to the prepared gessoed paper.

Thursday-Friday- Students will begin the underpainting process. General to specific light oil washes,

This week students need to complete their metel sculptue by Friday.

New Sketchbook Assignment: Art Talk Book read pages  352-363 take notes on all bold words as well as other important information regarding dates and artists.

Read pages 71-87 in Drawing as Expression again take notes on all important information. 

You will be having a quiz on both readings Tuesday Nov. 30. 

Sketchbok assignment 1: Artist research page.  Complete one 2 page spread in your sketchbook please include the following infromation.

1. Select one artist from each of the reading.

2. Print our two examples of art work from each artist.

3. Give 3 examples of how the artists are similiar.  Give 3 examples how the artists are different.

4. List how each of the artists you selected contributed to art history.

5. tell me why you selected the artists you did. What do you like about the work?

Sketchbook assignment 2: create a two page spread inspired by one of your selected artists.

Students will be working on their completion of the three studio assignments that are due next Tuesday.  We will be having our critue the Monday we get back from Thanksgiving break.

New assignments:

Photography- Double Exposure.  Please complete one two page spread on the technical research of Double Exposure.  You will be shooting two rolls in the camera as well as using the sandwiching technique of double exposure.

Black on Black:  Please complete one two page spread on the technical aspects of shooting black on black subject matter.  You will be shooting in very low lighting situations.  Your subject matter should reflect the idea of Black on Black.

Sketchbooks are due:Dec. 3 when you walk into class.

Drawing/Painting and 2D: Mixed media and responsive drawing.  Please research mixed media, you will be using watered down gesso, vine charcoal, charcoal, turpiod and oil paint to create your next piece. You will be working in layers and responging to the drawing and each layer in class.  Your sketchbook should reflect your research of mixed media, layered drawings, how to create space and mark making.

Drawing or painting about perspective in media of choice from observation.  Please investigate 2 point, 3 point and 4 point pespective.  2 page spread of research on perspective. When was it invented, who invented it? Find 1 example of each kind of perspective, include thumbnail sketches of your plans and investigation. Complete a peice at home that demonstrates perspective from observation.  No smaller than 16x20 Media you have not used..

Students are to be finishing the painting of their Humanimals due Wednesday!

You need to finish your paper mocket for your metal sculpture due to me by the end of the week.  We will begin the construction of the metal sculptures from your mockets tomorrow and you will work on them all next week.  They are due Tuesday Nov.23 at the end of class.

If you finish early there will be a sketchbook assignment for you to work on for our last unit on drawing.  I will give this to you next week.

Students will be beginning our unit on Oil painting.  Please bring all of your supplies with you to class. Paint brushes, small glass jar with lid, old rag and pallette.

Everyone should be very busy working in the studio on the following assignments.  All 3 are due for all portfolio classes on Friday Nov.19th. 

Still Points in a Turning World- Photograhy, 2D and Painting

Liquid Light- Photography

Non Traditional Art Piece/ photo- All Portfolios.

 

A few reminders for next week!  Mica will be here on the 18th and Kansas City will be here on the 19th as well as Ringling College of Art and Design will be in Daytons room on the 19th.

Please have your best 15 pieces in class if you would like to have a portfolio review done by these schools. Remember you will not have time in the studio to work these days so make arrangements. 

Scad Challenge is due to be uploaded by Nov. 19th!!! Very important if you plan on attending SCAD.

NATIONAL PORTFOLIO DAY is Saturday Nov. 20th at The Cobb Galleria.  www.nationalportfoiloday.com Find your favorite 5 schools you would like to visit and locate them on the map.  Make sure you arrive early to get a great place in line.  8 am is the best time to start camping out.  The doors open at 10am.  I will be there to help you save places in line and offer any enouragement or assitance you need!!  This is a very exciting day!!

Students are working on Encaustic pieces, Liquide Light, Still points and their non traditional art pieces.  The due date on three pieces are Thursday Nov. 18th.

Students should be gathering 15 of their strongest pieces to take to portfoio day Saturday Nov.20th.

DP1 students- will continue to work on shading their stilllifes from observation.Drawings are due Friday at the end of class.

DP2 students- Your color self portaits are due today. Everyday it is late I will be deducting 10 We will begin our new unit. Essential question is: How does an artist develop meaning with an imitative painting?  How does subject matter influence meaning with in the painting?
We will be using oil for this unit.

Sketchbook assignment: Artist research and inspiration page.  Please look at the following artists and create a 2 page spread for one artist from each column. One from the past and one that is contemporary,  including the followingthe following information for each artist, 3 images of artist's work, information about each piece, What is each piece about? Where this artist fits in to Art History, what style is the artist using? What are your thoughts or reflections abou the work?

Monday-Artist research sketchbook is due.  Make sure you have the following information on your page. The artist, 3 images, information about the artist and your thoughts about the work. Due at the end of the period.

You will need to start collecting soda cans to create your sculpture inspired byt he artist you selected.

Tuesday-Friday- students will draw out ideas for their metal sculptures. They will begin construction on the metal sculptiures.

Friday Metamorphasis is due at the beginning of class.
