We are learning how to roll and process film this week. Everyone should have their film rolled by the end of the week and has learned to process film. 

Sketchbooks are due today on shutter speeds and Aperture.

First shooting assignent is one roll on the following.

Sketchbook 3: Create 2 two page spreads on the above compostional concepts. Print out examples from the interenet for each. Write how is demonstrates the above composition and why you chose the image. Due Monday Feb.7.

This week we will be working on your fabric painting which is due Wednesday.

Thursday and Friday we will begin working on our still life in class.

Your homework will to look at Wayne Thiebaud or Janet Fish and work in the style of. You will need to set up your own still life to work from. Select an interesting point of view, maker sure the painting covers the entire format edge to edge.  Has detail and beautiful craftmanship. These paintings are Due Monday when you walk into class.

This week we will begin our final assignment for Contour line and cross contour line. These drawings will be due Friday at the end of class.

Homework this week.

Monday- Wrap an object in cloth and draw it.

Tuesday-Crumple a brown paper bag and draw it from an interesting perspective.

Wednesday- Go in your garage and draw a from an intereseting point of view. Cover the entire page!

Thursday- Using tools from around your house construct a robot using the tools to draw from. A screwdriver might be the body a fork could be the legs.... You get it. Cover the page include interesting patterns or drawings in the background. Use the shadow as part of your composition.

Friday-Sunday build a fort in your room. Draw a view from the inside and from the outside.

This week you are working on Concentration. You will have two concentration due Friday Feb. 11th.

Roswell Visual Arts Center Gallery Show: Pieces due to me Feb. 3rd at the latest. No larger than 24x34 unmatted.

Your sketchbooks are due today on the the photo article your read last week. The photographers eye.

In class we will be  learning about exposure how your camera sees light.  Understanding shutter and aperature.

Tuesday you will begin your sketchbook on Exposure, Shutter speeds and aperture, You will be creating 1 page on all.  You will need images as well as detailed information from the books.

Due Friday Jan.28

Wednesday-Friday we hopfully will begin shooting as a group in class. Learning how to load our cameras, take a light reading and correctly use your shutter and aperture.

This week we will continue working in the studio on different acrylic painting techniques.

Homework this week due Friday: Create a still life of 5 objects that tell a secret or reveal a fear.  Make sure your items have something to sit on like a cloth and have a background like another kind of cloth. Set up the lighting and work on the painting everynight for 1 hour.

I am expecting a realistic and detailed painting that represents 5 hours of work. Must be done from observation only! If you work from a photo you will recieve an F.

Today and this weeknwe are exploring cross contour line in our in class drawing today.  Cross contour lines decribe the inner and outer edges of objects. They begin to desribe volume and weight as well as detail. 

Homework Monday- Set up 3 objects that desribe your personality.  Pay close attention to cross contour and contour.  Make sure you draw the shadow and work on creating an interesting composition.

Homework Tuesday-  Draw 3 objects that tell a secret.

Homework Wednesday- Draw a 3 objects that represent a fear of yours.

Homework Thursday- Draw a portrait of a family member from observation.

Homework Friday- Draw a cluttered area of your home.

Everyone has two concentration pieces due today.  Sketchbooks for next set of concentration pieces are due Friday.  Concentration 2 peices due Feb. 4th.

Students will be exploring the monotype printmaking process this week. The following experiments are due at the end of class on Friday.

1. Roll on single color pull out image

2.  Paint on single color of image

3.  Paint of 3-5 colors using a reference

4.  Reworking an image using the stencil process see page 21

5.  Reduction method from observation page 22

6.  Multiple print mono type.

Friday you have Sketchbook #2 due on Juan Quick-to-see and other monoprint images you like and have found on line. 2 page spread.

You will be recieving your Monoprint assignment on Friday.  Please come to class on Monday prepared to begin working on your assignment. Including images, thumbnails, ideas and working drawings.

Draw and paint your sneakers stacked one on top of the other.  Make sure you paint in the back ground and the compostion should be intereresting.  I am looking for realistic painting with lots of details.

Tuesday- We will be reading about the Monoprint process in class and taking notes.  You will also be viewing a Youtube video on Monoprints. 

Wednesday and Thursday you will be experimenting with different monoprinting process.

Friday you will be working on your next sketchbook assignment 2 on Monoprinting artist Juan Quick-to-see.  Create a two page spread on the artist, find 2 images you like and write responses to those images. Find 2 more examples of monoprints you like on line. Write responses to those images.  Sketchbook Due Firday Jan. 28th

Please read the article I gave you "Way of Seeing" we will be discussing it in class as well as taking our first quiz on the History of Photography.

Tuesday we will be watching a film on the history of photo, I think it is important for you to see images along with the information :)

Wednesday we will be looking at images in class and using the article to help us articulate our thoughts.

Thursday we will be a film on Sallie Mann "Place" and discussing your thughts and reactions you write in your sketchbook.

Friday you will be working in your sketchbook #2.  Find one image that goes with each part of the article. Write about what you like about each image, discuss the elements of photography for each image and what you think each image is about.  Due date:Jan.21

Homework: Watch another video by William Kentridge and write how you think his earlier works influenced the work he is doing now.  Due when you walk into class tomorrow.
