In class/studio assignment: Photograms - create an interesting composition using the elements of photography.  See Lesson plan:  Photograms - Unit 1.doc

  • Monday: Group 3 will be learning about the darkroom, processing and how to make a photogram while groups 1,2,4 are working in their journals on their Elements of Photography Pages
  • Tuesday:  Group 3 will be making a photogram while groups 1,2,4 are working in their journals on their Elements of Photography Pages
  • Wednesday: Group 4 will be learning about the darkroom, processing and how to make a photogram while groups 1,2,3 are working in their journals on their Elements of Photography Pages
  • Thursday: Group 4 will be making a photogram while groups 1,2,4 are working in their journals on their Elements of Photography Pages
  • Friday:  Photograms Due today - Critique

In class/ Studio Assignment: Contour Drawing - Create an interesting composition by playing with visual movement and negative space.  Draw object you will bring into class.  See lesson plan for details: critique_contour_washes.doc 

 

  • Monday: Working in Journals - HW: Bring an interesting object to draw, pick one that has negative space
  • Tuesday: Begin Contour Line Drawing of your object - draw 2-3 times
  • Wednesday: Demo gesso wash on negative space of drawing, draw object 2-3 times being sure to overlap previous contours.
  • Thursday: Continue working on Contour Drawings
  • Friday:  Finish Contour Drawings and VVJs - VVJs due at the end of the period

 

Visual Verbal Journal Assignment:   You are going to create a "window" on a blank sheet of paper.  This will be your viewfinder - you are literally going to "find your view" using this paper.  Move your viewfinder around your image until you find the portion you want to recreate.  Using collage or paint, recreate the view you chose (the WHOLE part of what you see in your viewfinder).  Once you recreate that part, put away your image of Fish's work, and elaborate from that (create more of the design in your own original way but still keep with the same idea or "look") Finally, you will add written sections about the artist and whether you like or dislike the artwork - you HAVE TO also give reasons why you like it or why you do not like it.

In class/studio Assignment:  Photograms - produce one photogram that emphasizes an element of photography of your choice.  You will need to use multiple layers and varying levels of transparency.  Photograms - Unit 1.doc

  • Friday - Photograms and Journals

 

Journal Assignments: For each element of Photography, create a journal page dedicated to it - find images that emphasize each element and embellish page to relate to image/element.  Write a brief description about how your images/page shows the chosen element.

In class/studio assignment:  Elements and Principles Posters - Students will work in small groups to create a poster to illustrate the Elements of Art and one to illustrate the Principles of Design.

  • Monday:  Perception - we will watch a short video about perception then draw popcorn!

In class/studio Assignment:  Photograms - produce one photogram that emphasizes an element of photography of your choice.  You will need to use multiple layers and varying levels of transparency.  Photograms - Unit 1.doc 

 

  • Monday - Introduction to elements and principles of photography, activating negative space, visual weight, and paths of movement by viewing a Power point presentation - Discuss how famous photographers throughout time have used the elements of photography in their work - How has the role of the photographer changed over time? - Also discuss the chemistry of light sensitive materials.
  • Tuesday - Work in Journals
  • Wednesday - Work in Journals
  • Thursday - Work in Journals
  • Friday - Work in Journals - Journals due Tuesday 

Journal Assignments: Find the oldest photograph in your house and make a copy - research photo by asking parents or relatives about details - Who is in it?  Where is it?  What significant event was it capturing? What was happening around that time and place? Create a 2 page spread dedicated to the photo and your research - embellish pages

WELCOME BACK!!  I hope you had a restful break and are ready to come back and get to work!  This week in Photography I ........

  • Monday - Teacher Workday - No school for students
  • Tuesday - First day back from break for students.  We will use this day for introductions - to each other, the syllabus, the room and the course.
  • Wednesday -View History of Photography Video
  • Thursday - Read and take notes on graphic organizer History of Photography.doc    graphic organizer for photography intro.doc about the history of photography - focus on the major impacts photography has had on society.
  • Friday - Discuss your findings from reading in groups - come to a consensus as to the 5 most important impacts photography has had on society.  Share to class
