  • Monday: Finish reading Chapter 2 and taking notes -  quiz tomorrow  Homework: Print out your jewelry piece that you found in computer lab on Thursday and the definitions of art and craft - purchase your sketchbook by today to have with you in class tomorrow
  • Tuesday: NEED SKETCHBOOKS TODAY  Take Quiz on Power point and Chapter 2 - Discuss definitions found on art vs craft.  In sketchbook, create a two page spread about the piece of jewelry that you found.  Include the following:  the image of the original piece of jewelry, detailed reflections on the following:  What caught your eye about this piece when searching online?  What type of design principles do you see in the piece?  How is it balanced? If you had to take a guess, how do you think it was made? What do you like most?  Is there anything you do not like about the piece?  Why?  If you could change anything to make it better, what would you change?  
  • Wednesday:  Finish Journal page today - due at the end of the period.  Demo and practice on planning jewelry - explain why drawings are so important and why they need to be so exact.  NEED YOUR GRAPH PAPER TODAY - Homework Finish graphing shapes - due tomorrow at the beginning of class
  • Thursday:  Graphing of shapes due at beginning of class.  Draw your original piece of jewelry that you found online.  When done, come up with at least 4 ideas for changing it to make it more interesting.  Graph each idea out.
  • Friday:  Finish graphing ideas today - due at the end of period.

  • Monday  Read and take notes about Deborah Butterfield, how, and why she creates her work-  In sketchbook - write about the most interesting parts of what you read and a reflection on the following:  How is her work different from most others work?  What do you think of her work?  Why?  Do you consider her work to be art?  How is planning for this type of sculpture different then others?  Overall, how can what you read help you with your first sculpture assignment?  Homework: Collect a bag of small twigs and sticks to bring in tomorrow.
  • Tuesday Have images of your chosen animal in class today. Sketch out idea for your expressively posed animal.  You must sketch at least 4 views of animal  Homework:  Collect a bag of small twigs and sticks to bring in tomorrow.
  • Wednesday Have your drawings done and your bag of twigs and sticks today  Begin choosing the sticks and twigs that you need to complete your sculpture.  Demo on using glue gun and attaching to base.  Begin assembling your sculpture

  • Monday  Students will take quiz on reading from Chapter 1 Lesson 3 about the Elements and Principles of Design - Students will also view and take notes on Visual Verbal Journal Power Point and discuss how they will be used in class - Homework for Wednesday - bring in at least 2 small objects that contain both interesting positive and negative space.
  • Tuesday  Students will identify and discuss what contour line drawing is and begin practicing by drawing their hands - Homework - bring in at least 2 small objects that contain both interesting positive and negative space for tomorrow.
  • Wednesday Students will begin first assignment by drawing both of their objects just using contour lines.  When finished, choose the object that is more interesting and create at least 6 thumbnail sketch ideas for their overlapping contour line drawings.
  • Thursday Students will finish creating their thumbnail sketches - when done, choose the one that is best composed and that has equally balanced positive and negative space.  Begin sketching it on to good paper.
  • Friday  Students will be working on their first journal assignment - Topic - What is Art?  Use the paragraph from last Tuesday's timed writing when you wrote about what art is.  You may use that, definitions from the textbook and also visuals to create a 1 page spread in your journal.  The page needs to show your view of what art is both verbally and visually.  Use layers in your work to build up an interesting composition.  This is due next Friday at the end of class.
