Monday- Critique on two pieces.  All photo people need to only put up 8x10's regardless of weather or not you shot color.

Monday- group 2 will be learning how to process film. 
 The rest of the class will be working on sketchbook assignment/notes on hand out shutter speeds: Research The Beginning of Shutter Speeds.  6 two page spreads. You will need to research the photographer who first photographed the evidence of slow and fast shutter speeds.  Respond and record the research you find on the photographer as well as the image.  Please read about shutter speeds and document your understanding of how to control the shutter speed on your camera.  Collect 6 images 3 that are about slow shutter speeds and 3 fast.  Please respond to each photographer as well as each image.   These 6 two page spreads and the notes are due Monday August 31.

Weekly Studio Work:  Students will be working on their black and white charcoal expressive portraits.

3 thumbnails as well as experimental grounds are all due Friday.  We will begin the final piece on Monday.

In class/studio assignment:  Students will be working on a contour line drawing of their hands adding repetition by using different patterns and inspiration from their research on graffiti artists.

  • Monday:  Introduce new assignment - practice drawing contours of hands in different positions     HW:  Look up 3-5 professional graffiti artists - take notes about artist's techniques and your response to them - print out some images you like - fill a page in your journal with at least 15 different repetitive patterns - due tomorrow
  • Tuesday:  work in journals planning new assignment - create at least 4 thumbnail sketches of your ideas for assignment - choose one to complete
  • Wednesday:  Begin contour line drawings
  • Thursday:  Continue contour line drawings
  • Friday:  Journals due today -What is Art? -(was assigned on Thursday AUG 20th)             Continue working on contour line drawings

Monday- I will be moving students in to groups according to the amount of work they have completed thus far.  There will be 5 groups of six photographers.

I will be collecting your vocabulary on Monday.

Tuesday-Friday

Students will be working on the following assignments this week

One group will be learning how to roll film

The remaining  students will be working on sketchbook assignment 1 and 2

Assignment 1- Compose one 2 page spread around what you concider to be your best image as of today.  Please talk about why you think it is a good photography, how you made it, when you made it.  Please use excellent composition skills.

Assignment 2:  Compose one 2 page spread about Point of View.  Please read about Point of View (Perspective) in our photography book The Photographic Eye pages 137-147

Please take notes on pages 137-147 due Friday August 21

Due date:  FRIDAY you have your notes and 2  two page spreads in sketchbook due

LINE AS A DESIGN ELEMENT

 

Shoot 1 roll of film which focuses on line as a design element.  Make sure you are going beyond the cliché images that come to mind, such as the inside of a umbrella, a window, a door, planks of wood, trees................

 

You will need to complete 1 two page spread exploring line as seen in master's work.

Monday- Turn in Vocab

              We will continue our reading of shutter and aperature speeds.  Students should be shooting POINT OF VIEW concentrating on making every shot different.  They should also be taking a light reading.

Students need to be buying Kodak Tri-x 400 film or they may order Artista Prem. 400 asa film from Freestyle.

Point of View is due August 20

Tuesday- Students will be reading shutter speeds and apertures as well as working in sketchbooks My Best Photo and Point of View.  Studetns will create one two page spread for each assignment. 

Best Photo and Point of view due : August 24

Wednesday-  Friday  Students who have shot their roll of film will be begin learning how roll film while other groups will be working on research and sketchbooks

Monday: All students meet in the Auditorium for Introduction to the Visual Arts/Graphic Art   Program

Tuesday:  Introductions and Getting to Know You.  Review of the syllabus, class expectations, fee's and supplies.  
 
Wednesday:  Introduction to first unit: Expressive Portraits
Homework: Internet research and response  Due: Friday

Thursday: Demonstration of technique and begin Value scales
HW:  Finish value scales due Friday

Friday:  Begin Spheres using black and white charcoal.  Introduction to objects from observation using black and white charcoal.

WELCOME BACK!!  I look forward to meeting and working with each of you in Introduction to Art.  To help you navigate through my blog I wanted to explain where to find the things you will need. 

The weekly class schedule will be posted on the main Introduction to Art page each week by Monday morning at 8:30am - this weekly schedule is tentative and may change.
