Accounting High School Residency Program @ UGA

|

Since 1998 the Georgia Society of CPAs (GSCPA) and the University of Georgia have hosted the High School Residency Program. This summer the program is being hosted exclusively by the University of Georgia as the Accounting High School Residency Program @ UGA (ARP). The goal of the program is to encourage bright individuals to consider careers in accounting and as CPAs. In a 2008 GSCPA survey of past participants, 80 percent of the high school students who attended the program indicated they planned to major in accounting.

The 2010 program will take place at the University of Georgia on June 27-30, 2010. The students will stay in one of our residence halls, eat in campus dining halls and attend accounting-related informational sessions throughout the day. To encourage participation from as many qualified high school students as possible we have limited the program fee to $50. (the estimated cost per student is approximately $350).

It is our belief that the more the students are exposed to "real world" accountants, the more likely they are to pursue careers in accounting. Thus, we have professional accountants and CPAs 1) present sessions, 2) serve as chaperones, and/or 3) attend sessions or meals during the ARP.

Below is the student application link to the 2010 Accounting High School Residency Program @ UGA:

I have also attached a pdf containing a program information sheet and a guidance counselor recommendation form. Please distribute the application materials to as many qualified students as possible, and contact Randy Groomes rgroomes@uga.edu if you have questions.
