Attention Seniors!

Attention Seniors ...

  • You need to pay close attention to deadlines as you apply for financial aid. State-imposed deadlines for state-funded aid appear on FAFSA on the Web at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Because schools may have their own deadlines for federal campus-based and school financial aid, you should directly contact financial aid administrators at your prospective schools to determine if schools have their own application forms for aid and to confirm school deadlines.

  • Students should visit www.fafsa.ed.gov to complete the online FAFSA. Remember; if a Web site requests credit card information or some other form of payment to complete the FAFSA, then that site is not the official government (FREE) Web site.

Girls Incorporated of Greated Atlanta: Girls Summit "Choices"

|

Girls Incorporated of Greater Atlanta is one of the state's leading voices for girls; serving girls in the Atlanta area for 31 years.  With our research-based, educational and interactive programming, we give girls the skills necessary to address the challenges associated with the societal messages regarding their personal value and worth.

This April, Girls Incorporated of Greater Atlanta will host the Girls Summit "Choices": A Conference on Education and Career Planning on the campus Georgia Tech.  Through a partnership with the AT&T and Allstate Foundations, as well as guest speakers who are corporate & community leaders, this summit will help girls examine different ways they can reach their educational and career goals by empowering them to make positive decisions. With the high instances of high school dropouts in GA, it is important to inspire girls to stay focused, on track academically and prepare for successful careers.

In addition to workshops, panel discussions, speakers and fellowship, girls will have access to first, second and third place scholarship awards. The awards will be presented to three deserving young women who submit winning essays on the topic of the importance of education. Award funds may be used to support plans for secondary education or entrepreneurial ventures.

We are extending an invitation to all 9th - 12th grade female students to join us on the campus of Georgia Tech from 9:30 AM - 2:00 PM.  The Girls Summit will take place on April 28, 2009.  The cost for participation is $20.00 per girl, which includes program materials, activities and pizza lunch.  We welcome the opportunity for your students and staff to participate in this year's Girls Summit which is sure to be a wonderful learning experience. With your help we can ensure that all girls are inspired to be strong, smart and bold.

FAFSA Assistance...

|

February 2, 2009

Georgia Student Finance Commission's mission statement is to promote and increase access to education beyond high school for Georgians.  February is Financial Aid Awareness Month in Georgia and we know that in today's economy, families are extremely concerned about how to finance a college education.

During the month of February, Monday through Friday, Client Services staff will be available to help families complete the Free Federal Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at our facility in Tucker, Georgia.  We will have staff available from 12 pm until 2 pm each day.  We will also accommodate evening appointments as requested.

If you would like to make an appointment for FAFSA assistance, please have them call Wanda Simmons at 1-800-505-4732 ext. 9017 or email at wandas@gsfc.org.  It will be extremely important that the family bring their 2008 Federal Income Tax information with them.

We look forward to providing this free service to the families of Georgia.  If we can assist you further, please do not hesitate to contact me at sarahb@gsfc.org or by calling 1-800-505-4732 ext. 9021.

Sincerely,

Sarah Baumhoff

Vice President, Client Services
