You need to find five different ways line is used in photography.  Identify the photographer and discuss how line is being used in the image.  You will need to do a two page spread, and use two media as well as text to discuss your ideas on how you are going to shoot line.

Inspiration: David Hockney

Look at David Hockney's work and print out a few examples, find two examples of Contact sheet as Image.  Discuss how you can be inspired by Hockney's work as well as discuss your plans for this assignment.  You will need to plan very carefully for this assignment.  Please complete a two page spread using different media and layers.

Complete a  two page spread finding 4 photographers who's work you are inspired by they may be contemporary if you want. Complete a two page spread using layers and different media. Due date: Feb. 12

New shooting assignment: The 5 parts of the photo
 
Thursday:  Students continue to print their first prints
Friday:  Students will turn in their best 1 prints from their first roll of film.

This week in Photo 3:
Tuesday-Friday  The students will be printing sillhoutte with a critique on Friday of two images.

This week in Photo 4:
Tuesday-Friday  The students will be printing "Intimacy"  with a critique on Friday two images from someone you know and two images of a stranger.

In class/studio Assignment:  Photograms - produce one photogram that emphasizes an element of photography of your choice.  You will need to use multiple layers and varying levels of transparency. 

 

  • Monday - Introduction to elements and principles of photography, activating negative space, visual weight, and paths of movement by viewing a Power point presentation - Discuss how famous photographers throughout time have used the elements of photography in their work - How has the role of the photographer changed over time? - Also discuss the chemistry of light sensitive materials.

Week 2 January 12-16 Drawing and Painting 3

Monday:  Thumbnails for Line are due.  You will be meeting with me to discuss your ideas for this painting.  Some students will be continuing their studies using Acrylic paint.  You will be staring a small scale painting from observation using acrylic paint.
Tuesday:  If we have the 2 by 2 in and the canvas we will be learning how to stretch your own canvas.
Wednesday:  We will be stretching canvas, priming the canvas and beginning the paintings.
Thursday-Friday  Finishing up the stretching, beginning the paintings and finishing the small acrylic studies due Friday.

PHOTO 2 Students
Monday:  Sketchbook "My Best Photo" is due
You also should have shot your entire roll of film working on Framing, Focus and taking light readings.  I will be teaching you how to rewind your cameras and how to load your film into the canisters for developing.
Tuesday:  You will be working on loading your film on to the rolls and into the canisters.
Demonstration on Developing Film
 
Wednesday:  Groups will be developing film, working in sketchbooks
Demonstration on Cutting negatives and making contact sheets.
Thursday:  You will be developing your practice film in groups of two or reading The Photographers Eye article and writing a summery and working in sketchbooks.
 
Friday:  You will finishing developing your film or reading the article The Photographers Eye and working on your sketchbook 2 The Photographers Eye
