For all High school students: age 17 and up
Applicants must create a 30 second YouTube video about why they would benefit from receiving a private pilot's license, and post it to the wall of the Tailwheels Scholarship Facebook page.
Be creative and have fun with it. the videos will not be judged on technical perfection, but rather on enthusiasm and creativity. You may create your film using anything that produces a YouTube submittable video, including a video camera or even a cellphone.
In the video applicants must:
Mention Tailwheels Etc. and use one or more of the following keywords/key word phrases
- "Flight School"
- "Flying Lessons"
- "How to Learn to Fly"
- "Flight School in Florida"
- "High School to Flight School"
- "Flight School Training"
- "Air Flight School"
The video should be named using one of the above keywords/phrases, your first initial and last name along with the date, (ex: learn-to-fly-tmartin-032011 ).
Post your video to our wall before midnight May 20th , where it will initially be evaluated by your peers.
Videos will be judged based on their content as well as how many likes and positive comments they receive.
After peer judging has occurred, the staff of Tailwheels Etc will judge the top 250 videos. The final decision on the winner of the scholarship will lie with the owner of Tailwheels Etc.
Judging will be completed, and the winner(s) will be announced on May 31st
Dates of training for the grand prize winner will be July 8th -22nd 2011
Requirements
- Applicant must be a US citizen high school student residing in the United States, Puerto Rico, or Guam.
- Applicant must be 17 years or older at the time of training
- Video must be submitted to the Tail Wheels Scholarship Facebook wall no later than midnight (EST) May 20th.
- If applicant is under the age of 18, he/she must have written parental consent to receive flight training.
- Grand Prize winner will be required to supply his/her own transportation to Tailwheels Etc
Prizes-
Grand Prize
Everything needed to get a Private Pilot's License.
-Includes all flight time, flight instructor, written test, flight test and books.
Accommodations will be provided, however meals will be the sole responsibility of the student.
Grand Prize winner will receive initial notification through Facebook, and will receive all necessary study materials (along with a parental consent form if necessary) in the mail shortly after receipt of contact details. Consent form must be returned to Tailwheels Etc. on or before the day training commences.
*Note: Please use the 1 month between the contests end and arrival at the flight school to study all written materials. You will have to take a written exam before you will be allowed to do any actual flight training. A score of 80 or better is required for enrollment in FAA 141.
Second Prize
A number of runners up will be provided with the opportunity for a free Discovery Flight with one of the following 9 Flight Centers.
