In class/Studio Assignment:  Take 2 photographs of the same object - one photograph needs to show object in a traditional still life fashion and the other in an abstracted way.  Each group will get 3 days total to capture a well composed photograph that has good exposure.  See lesson plan:  Unit 3 Lesson Plan.doc

  • Monday - Group 4 will have a day to experiment with their camera; Groups 1,2,3 will work in journals and on their books.
  • Tuesday - Group 1 will work in darkroom on the new assignment (see above); Groups 2,3,4 will work in journals and on their books
  • Wednesday - Group 1 will work in darkroom on the new assignment (see above); Groups 2,3,4 will work in journals and on their books
  • Thursday - Group 1 will work in darkroom on the new assignment (see above); Groups 2,3,4 will work in journals and on their books
  • Friday - Group 2 will work in darkroom on the new assignment (see above); Groups 1,3,4 will work in journals and on their books

Visual Verbal Journal: Complete two -2-page spreads (include images and research): 

  Dedicate one 2-page spread to research on a 20th century Photographer whom takes mainly abstracted Photographs - Verbalize your reactions to the work - Use adjectives, analogies, metaphors to communicate the work's content/meaning.  How do you think the artist's intent connects to your interpretation?  Brainstorm ideas of how you could produce pinhole photographs that relate to this photographers work.

Dedicate the other 2-page spread to research on a 20th century Photographer whom takes mainly traditional still life Photographs - Verbalize your reactions to the work - Use adjectives, analogies, metaphors to communicate the work's content/meaning.  How do you think the artist's intent connects to your interpretation?  Brainstorm ideas of how you could produce pinhole photographs that relate to this photographers work

February 16th - 20th

February 2nd - 6th

In class/ Studio Assignment: Unit 2: Construction of Camera, Lens and Embellishment - See lesson Plan for details: LP Construction of Pinhole Camera.doc 

 

  • Monday: Discuss/Analyze Camera Obscura - Begin Construction of Pinhole Camera - Demo on Bottom piece - To embellish Camera you will create a black and white design and/or bring in photographs to be copied that you will then transfer on to your Camera - For Homework:  Bring photographs/create designs to be copied by Wednesday
  • Tuesday: Continue Construction of Camera - Demo on Top Piece
  • Wednesday: Continue Construction of Camera - Demo Paper Holder
  • Thursday: Continue Construction of Camera - Demo Lens, Painting, and Packing Tape Transfer  
  • Friday: Continue Construction of Camera - Painting and Embellishment

 

Journal Assignments: Choose a pair of photographers from the list provided.  Complete a two page spread that visually and verbally compares and contrasts their work.  You will need analyze their work thinking about things such as their styles, chosen content, technical qualities, cultural context, viewpoint, etc.
